A Day Among Firefighters

We again decided to go the Firefighter Games at Short Pump this year and Owen was in his glory.  He could not get enough of seeing all the fire trucks and all the firefighters.  He also got to see a lot of police vehicles and trucks too.  We spent several hours walking around, going inside of trucks and trailers, and talking to firefighters.  Owen asked the first fire fighter we came across where the foam trucks were.  The firefighter was very impressed with Owen's knowledge of chemical and foam fire trucks (thanks to a book he picked out at the library)!  Hannah and Owen even got to ring the bell on one of the firetrucks.  One of Owen's favorite things was seeing the ladders of two firetrucks extended and and American Flag hanging down in between them.  He has talked a lot about that in past week.

We can't pass up a hug from Sparky the fire dog!

Owen's favorite sight...the American flag hanging between two fire truck ladders.
This is a funny picture because Owen specifically decided to stand by the wheel and Hannah the door.
We sat in these antique fire trucks twice!  Owen was fascinated by the pictures that showed how it went from being old and broken down to being restored.  It reminded him of his storybook, Alphabet Rescue.

This is how Owen looked the whole time we were there.  This grin did not leave his face!

We explored all ambulances too-yes, the driver's seat and the back where they carry people.

Our favorite part of the demonstrations was seeing the ladder go up and down and watching the firefighters repel upside down.

We are already looking forward to next year's event!
