7 months old- June 2011

Brotherly and Sisterly Love starts early
Hannah often laughs when she get the chance to rub Owen's fuzzy wuzzy hair!

Owen and Hannah liked helping Chris open his Father's Day gift.

In month 7 Hannah is sitting up on her own without assistance although at first she was very trusting that there would be someone or something there to catch her if she leaned back.  It only took a week of practice and we no longer had to be right behind her, but she was able to sit and play independently.  She is also working on waving.  She has the cutest Miss America wave where she rotates her hand one way and then the other instead of opening and closing her fingers.  She waved on command to my grandma and Ernie when they were leaving Uncle Jake's birthday dinner on June 17th.  Hannah also mastered rolling in all directions toward the end of the month and enjoys being able to move herself around this way on the blanket where we play.  I have also caught her up on her hands and knees in her crib, but she is very content to sit and play.  She is super flexible and can bend over (in half) and reach almost anything she desires!

Can we say Daddy's girl?

 Hannah loves her Uncle Jake
Hannah likes to sit with either of us while we finish up looking at or working on something on the computer.  We don't even try it with Owen because he wants to be on the move all the time!

We knew it was coming...Owen started crawling! He enjoys his new freedom of movement and is a busy and determined little fellow quickly going after any toy that he wants.  Right now he likes to stay close to our play area and when he ventures off often stops and looks back at us to check in.  Not long after he started crawling Owen figured out how to get into a sitting position from being on his hands and knees.  Now he is very independent when playing.  Owen also took his first bath in the bathtub.  We bought the inflatable duck tub which makes both of us feel more secure that he won't take dive into the water too soon!  Owen got all 4 teeth on top at once.  I thought I was going to miss his gummy smile, but the teeth are pretty cute.

Owen cracks us up when he casually hangs out or crawls around with a toy hanging out of his mouth.

 And he's off...
Owen hanging out with Uncle Jake...2 cool dudes
Owen has a serious passy addiction.  He will snatch one up whenever he sees one and he is very good at finding them whether they've been dropped or whether he pulls it out of his sister's mouth.  I think it's time we start to work on recognizing our colors.
Pulling out bibs is Owen's favorite thing to do right now.  He loves the independence of being able to crawl over to the baskets and pull them out from under the pack and play.  He often pulls out a bunch of bibs, laughs hysterically while tossing them in the air, and then crawls away giggling with a bib dangling from his mouth.

I introduced breakfast this month.  I tried them with oatmeal, but they didn't like it at first and we switched back to rice cereal for a couple of weeks.  Owen continues to enjoy all food equally and was introduced to fruit this month.  At this point he is eating apples, peaches, pears, and bananas.  Hannah is more cautious when trying new things and it often takes 2 introductions before she takes to something.  When introducing fruit I had to put a small amount on the spoon and surround it with rice cereal until she learned to appreciate the new taste.  At first she didn't like apples, but took them the second time we tried them.  She liked pears and bananas right away, but needed 2 tries before appreciating peaches (she gagged on the the first time) and prefers them mixed with apples.  Within a couple of weeks both were eating oatmeal too every morning in addition to their fruit.  Both Hannah and Owen enjoy chewing on apples in their self feeders and Owen often gets his to near applesauce with his new chompers.

Hannah and Owen love to jump in their stationary jumper and they think it is hysterical when Mommy and Daddy jump in place or around the room which I tend to do often just to hear them laugh or to keep them from melting down.  They know what "jump, jump, jump" means and respond by doing just that wherever they are.  We listen to lots of music and they look up at the CD player when the music comes on.  Their favorite song by far is the Wheels on the Bus.  I sing it many times throughout the day because Hannah can be fussing or on the verge of tears and each time I start in with the Wheels on the Bus she starts to grin.  So I sing it when preparing their food, while driving in the car, while getting dressed, and while changing diapers.  They also like the beat and the shake shake shake we do to a song called Going to Kentucky.  Hannah also really likes the Itsy Bitsy Spider.  It also results in grins and I swear sometimes she is making the spider movement with her hands along with me.  Their favorite toys right now are balls and blocks.  Owen loved to knock down towers and Hannah enjoys holding, shaking, and passing a ball from one hand to the other.  Their favorite books are their Peekaboo books with baby faces and playthings behind flaps that open and close.
