10 months old- September 2011

Wow, where do I start?  It has been one busy month which is fitting since Hannah and Owen are little busy bodies right now.  Each day they explore every area of the house that they are allowed into which include the living room, dining room, kitchen, and their room.  With that said this month was full of final steps to officially baby proof our house.  It started small with the plugs for the outlets, but I'm beginning to worry we may need to upgrade to something more permanent since both Hannah and Owen have a fascination with the outlet plugs.  Owen already puts his hand directly over the plug-I just know he will be the one to figure out how to get it out.  It also became priority to put magnetic locks on all the kitchen cabinets and drawers.  I was really afraid one of them, namely Owen, would get their tiny fingers smashed in the drawers.  We didn't feel like the regular latches were strong enough to hold Owen so we exchanged them for the magnetic locks which we love.  We also had to lock the bathroom cabinets and drawers and I wish there were a way to do dresser drawers as well.  In addition, we've had to remove several pieces of furniture like our end tables and one of our lamps because they wouldn't leave the cords alone and kept trying to pull up on our end tables which we felt were too flimsy.  Finally, we secured their bookshelf in their room to the wall with anchor straps and not a moment too soon as Owen figured out how to climb up and stand on his stool while holding on to his bookshelf!
Reach just a little higher sis!  We've almost got it!
Owen helps daddy put on the locks-we think he is trying to figure out how they work so he can outsmart them!
He looks like a big boy in his jeans.
Owen is holding their moon nightlight.  They love it so much that we had to order another one so they could each have their own to play with.  It has helped with getting them ready for bed on the nights that daddy was working.

I say this every month, but they are so fun!  I enjoy all the moments of playtime that we share although now that I've gone back to work I never feel as if I have enough time with them.  Three hours in the afternoon and Saturday and Sunday go by way too fast.  Nonetheless I'm trying to be thankful for the time I do get to spend with them.  They are doing so many funny things and interacting with each other more and more.  One of their favorite things this month is to chase each other behind our couch.  It is hysterical.  Owen practically begs Hannah to chase him.  One will start behind the couch and the other instantly knows the game has started and will crawl from wherever to follow behind.  They often stop in the middle and sit and laugh at each other.  They also enjoy touching and grabbing for each other although Hannah sometimes seems to need her space.  One night I was feeding them both their bedtime bottle on the living room floor.  I was holding Hannah and Owen had stopped to play a little bit until he noticed Hannah kicking her feet.  He thought it was so funny to try and grab her feet and she couldn't drink her bottle because she kept laughing.

Now we have 2 nighlights and their glowworms are popular too.
Owen was grabbing at the bunny on Hannah's shirt.

They are both pulling up like crazy on everything they can.  Sometimes they even appear to be trying to hang from the kitchen and dining room table.  One day very soon they will be standing alone...they are so close and can do it momentarily and I can tell their confidence is growing.  They really enjoy standing at the front door to watch the dog across the street, the cars going by, and the neighborhood kids ride their bikes.  Watching them crawl all over (including on top of, under, and through any obstacle in their way) and interact makes me smile each day.  If you don't have already have the mental image...our house is a busy place!
Owen likes to push the high chairs around in the kitchen...even when Hannah is sitting in hers.  She thought it was amusing.
Can we please have some gummi bears?
Last week when I went to get Owen out of his crib in the morning he was standing up holding onto the crib rail with one arm out of his pajama shirt!  I can barely get his arms in his pajamas when we are getting ready for bed so I'd like to know how he managed to wiggle his arm out of his snugfit pajamas!

Both Hannah and Owen are fascinated with our phones, remotes, and camera right now.  We can't even talk on the phone in the same room with them because they fuss to "speak" to whoever has called and they know the difference between their toy phone and the real one!  Most of our pictures this month are close ups because they come charging towards me at their fastest rate of crawling to get to the camera in my hands.

Hannah talks to her Uncle Jake on the phone.
Hannah and Owen's Mema heard about their love of phones and she bought them their own.  They love them and play with them often each day.  Now, if you say hello, Owen, he will put the phone up to his ear.

They are eating more and more table food as they have both become bored with food on a spoon.  In fact, Owen currently will spit out every mouth full of food that you put in his mouth with a spoon and then he blows raspberries with the rest of what is left in his mouth.  So we are experimenting with a variety of new food including broccoli, kiwi, steamed squash, avocado, black beans, grilled cheese sandwiches, small cubes of cheese, bagel thins, and graham crackers.  Hannah will still eat some baby food like her oatmeal and fruit in the morning and her yogurt at lunch.  She is a little more picky and has to see the same food many times before she tries it herself.  She is getting better at feeding herself, but still likes to be fed especially if the food has a funny texture or is too messy.  She really likes to feed herself Cheerios, puffs, graham crackers, bagel thins, and english muffins.  She has also started picking up kiwi, broccoli, black beans, and blueberries.

Hannah and Owen got their first pair of real shoes this month.  We decided to get their first pair of shoes from Stride Rite because they have a line of shoes for prewalkers.  We figured with the weather cooling down they wouldn't be able to go barefoot anymore.  It's a good thing we started at Stride Rite because both need a wide shoe.  Hannah needed a size 4 wide and Owen needed a size 5 wide.  We also ordered them bootie type shoes to wear inside so they won't slip in their socks.  Hannah likes her shoes and pays no attention to them.  Owen; however, kicks and pulls off his left shoe and over the weekend took off both shoes and both socks in the back seat of the car.  I'm hoping when he starts walking he will forget about them.
