F is for Football!

On the weekend of October 22nd we made our second trek out to Wise County, Va for one of Uncle Jake's football games.  This time we decided traveling at night might be better.  So we loaded up around 4pm and hit the road.  We stopped in Waynesboro to eat dinner and feed Hannah and Owen at Chickfila.  Well we ate, but Hannah and Owen were more interested in everything and everyone around them that they ate very little compared to at home.  Owen thought the rolling high chair that he could push and pull away from the table was great!  We successfully took up 2 tables, 8 chairs, and an hour of our travel time-I always underestimate what a feat we are undertaking with 2 babies in tow.  After dinner we changed Hannah and Owen into their pajamas in the front seat of the car, hit Starbucks for coffee, and got back on the road.  Hannah and Owen were sound asleep by 7:30pm and we pulled into the hotel parking lot at 10:30pm!  Chris and my mom went up to set up the pack and plays in our room.  My hope was a smooth transfer from the car to the room without them waking up too much--well let's just say things didn't go as planned.  We ended up feeding them their bedtime bottle and putting them screaming into the pack and plays at 11pm.  We walked out and went to visit with my brother next door-it took Hannah and Owen 30 minutes to settle down and go back to sleep.  I was really nervous about the other people on the floor.  They slept great for the rest of the night though and let us sleep in until almost 8am!  I laid in the middle of the king size bed and put pillows on the edge next to me so they couldn't see me if they woke up as their pack and plays were next to the bed.  Breakfast was served in their highchairs strapped onto the chairs in our hotel room-I forgot to get a picture of this.  We were all dressed and ready for the game and heading out the door around 9:30am.  Chris and I decided after washing bottles in the bathroom sink that we don't know how people vacation in hotels-there is just not enough space!

The game was great!  It was a cool start to the day, but it warmed up and was perfect football weather in the beautiful Virginia mountains.  As usual Hannah and Owen enjoyed the sights and cheering Uncle Jake on.  They were a little more squirmy and restless than at the last game and we spent a lot of time walking around.  Both settled down after half time for a nap and we were able to get some great pictures with Uncle Jake after the game.  The UVA Wise Cavaliers won the game 56 to 14.  I can't believe it is the last game I'll see Jake play.  I've been going to his games since I was in high school.  It has been such a big part of our family for so long.  We've enjoyed watching him grow and thrive as an athlete in the game he loves!

After the game we celebrated with dinner at Uncle Jake's place and birthday cupcakes for Granddad, Mommy, and Daddy since we all have October birthdays.

Uncle Jake was growing out a beard during football season, but has recently shaved it off.  Hannah and Owen didn't quite know what to make of it.
