Taking Hannah and Owen to Maymont Park, a childhood favorite of both Chris and myself, has been on my to do list for sometime. After a stressful week at work the weekend dawned sunny and beautiful with rain and storms in the imminent future. We decided to take advantage of the weather to do something special and so to Maymont Park we headed. We started with the Children's farm first and looked at all the animals. It was so neat to watch Hannah and Owen observe and take in the different animals we have read so much about in their books. It was as if I could actually see the connections being made in their busy little minds. Hannah, our dare devil, did not shy away from any animal, but would bend forward as they stuck their heads through the fence slats to greet them in her own special way and look them right in the eye. Owen, however, was much more cautious and did not like the animals sudden and unpredictable movements. He was happier to watch them from a distance. After spending some time with the animals we walked around enjoying the weather and all of the other people out for the day. We finished up at the nature center looking at the fish and turtles. Hannah and Owen really liked the nature center because they were able to get so close to the big fish and they liked watching them swim. Hannah would open and close her mouth in an attempt to make a fish face at each tank. It was great to spend the day doing something special with our precious Hannah and Owen!
