At just over 3 years old, Hannah and Owen are starting to figure out how to play together and they now realize that playing together can be fun! They have both always had very developed and vivid imaginations and that continues to be even more true at age 3 (in fact they will tell you that they are using their imaginations or pretending). They still like to reenact favorite episodes of Mickey's Clubhouse and it is funny to hear them banter back and forth, but they will also make up other things that are "happening" but are so not really happening. Like while eating lunch or dinner one will all of sudden say, "do you want to ride on my train?" and the other will respond. They take imaginary walks, put on imaginary shows, make food for their friends and each other. They will pretend to be sad after disappointing things "happen" and the other will swoop in the make it better. At Owen's fire station they will wash the fire trucks with brooms and spray them clean with the fire hose. They will load up laundry baskets (pretend city bus for Owen and toon car for Hannah) in order to take pretend trips to different places. They also really like to have "birthday parties" for their stuffed animal friends and it takes a long time for them to get everything just right. They have to find food, cake, and "wrap" presents too (This is when they pull out a whole bunch of toys that they aren't actually going to play with and pretend to wrap them in blankets and towels for their friends to open. This is the part that mommy likes the least since it involves the biggest clean up!) Oh and they can turn pom poms, beans, and dice into just about anything (including but not limited to: snow, rocks, dirt, tea, lemonade, smoothies, food, bubbles for a bath for baby dolls and toy animals, a new road being made and much much more)! Don't get me wrong they have plenty of arguments, squabbles, disagreements, and yelling matches. In fact they will sometimes say, "we're having a disagreement!". But it has been oh so fun to watch this part of their relationship develop. There have been a few times recently where Chris and I looked at each other as if to say what do we do now they don't need us. We are still trying to get used to the feeling of those moments!
On this day I captured Hannah and Owen playing doctor together and it was so funny.
Time for a flu shot!
Now a temperature check
This is the funniest one...they put the blood pressure cuff on and then take the squeeze bulb to their nose as if it is a bottle of saline spray!
Now a check of the ears
Finally the use the tweezers to pretend to clip toe nails!
Owen was the doctor and now has to enter the data into his "computer".
Playing with Owen's fire station and trucks is also a favorite thing for them to play together.
