Brotherly and sisterly love and they exchange hugs.
Owen will say, "I love you to the moon and back Hannah!"
Hannah:
Weight: 37.75 lbs
Height: 37.25 inches
Owen:
Weight: 38.5 lbs
Height: 39 inches
Dr. Larosa said they look great and have beautiful growth charts. I knew Owen was beginning to look quite a bit taller than Hannah, but was surprised by how much taller he is...a full 2 inches! I described Owen as a child who likes a variety of foods as he will eat most vegetables that you put on his plate. He loves green beans and broccoli and he cracks me up because he pulls his green beans apart to eat the seeds in the middle first, and then the rest. He likes to pretend that his spoon is a bulldozer on most nights. His favorite thing to eat these days is Babybel cheese. He often asks for it for breakfast which is met with a no from Mommy. He also likes to eat blueberry pancakes with cream cheese and jam on them. Finally, he has discovered a love of making smoothies!
I described Hannah as a somewhat picky eater although Dr. Larosa said both seem to be eating incredibly well for two year olds. Hannah still does not like vegetables, but will eat 2 bites of anything I ask (because she is two) especially when motivated by dessert. She is not a big meat eater, but she will eat steak, hot dogs, chicken, shrimp, pork chops if you offer enough ketchup. Hannah could eat and often does eat ketchup on just about everything. She loves any kind of fruit, but blueberries and raspberries seem to be her favorite. She loves macaroni and cheese, cream cheese, and sour cream. She likes to eat cream cheese sandwiches for breakfast and lunch. Sometimes they are on cinnamon bread and sometimes wheat bread. She likes dipping crackers in hummus too (so does Owen). Hannah likes all kinds of desserts, but loves icing cake (birthday cake) and ice cream especially from Sweet Frog where she asks for fruit poppers, strawberries/blueberries, and sprinkles as her toppings.
Dr. Larosa was suprised by their developed imaginations which grow more and more each day. I've been amazed by all their pretend play these days. The other morning Hannah went down the hallway and came back to her room to tell me there was a horse in the hallway. Then they had to go find carrots so they could feed the horse. They remember everything and can repeat it verbatim most of the time. Their current favorite show is Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood. When they are supposed to be napping I can hear them pretending to be part of the latest episode. Owen will say, "here comes Trolley" and Hannah will respond with something from the show like, "wait, I'm not ready for school yet!". The other day they were taking Mickey and Minnie to see Dr. Anna and were each pretending to check Mickey and Minnie's ears, eyes, and heart. They will also "pretend" to read to each other, but can recite most of the books we have in our house so it does sound as if they are reading. One morning I woke up to them taking a trip to the beach. Hannah asked Owen to put sunscreen on her back. Hannah was driving a purple car and Owen was driving a blue one. Hannah said she didn't know how to get there, but they would just get in and drive and figure it out. The conversations they have with each other are increasing in number each day and they keep us smiling and laughing a lot in our household.
Hannah still loves to play with her baby dolls and doll house. Owen has taken a recent liking to matchbox cars and has collected quite a few. He likes to build car dealerships and garages for them and load them on his Mickey car carrier. He likes the line them all up or put them in a parking lot and recently he likes to sort them all into groups by color. He is very protective of "his" toys and likes them to be just so. He also still really likes fire trucks and has enjoyed playing with his Daddy's old Hess Station fire trucks. Owen is into matching everything. He will match his cars to the cars on book pages and he is very into matching the colors of things too. He likes his plate and cup to be the same color when he eats. He will eat if they don't match, but will comment on it.
Hannah and Owen recently saw their first rainbow and so we made some rainbow art during the week.
Things we can do:
Count orally 1-10 (sometimes higher)
Identify H for Hannah, O for Owen, D for Daddy, M for Mommy, N for Nana, A for Avery, and J for Uncle Jake
Identify most colors-orange and yellow still stump us sometimes
Say our blessing for dinner
Recite several nursery rhymes/songs
State their whole name although Owen sometimes says his name is Owen Nicole Houston because that is Hannah's middle name
Things we like to do:
Have parades in our house-now they pretend to be Disney characters as they parade up and down the hallway and we have to wave and give them high fives
Play outside-their favorite thing to do is to blow bubbles and play in the rocks we have by our deck with their trucks and buckets and shovels. Hannah loves to swing.
Go swimming
Go to Kindermusik
Go to Storytime, check out and read new library books
Look for fire trucks at fire stations
Drive by the purple dump truck that parks at a local gas station
Hannah loves to do art and her favorite thing to do is paint and glue
After finding and watching a ladybug outside we make some ladybugs of our own.
This is Hannah's, she loved gluing on the spots and I had to cut more and more.
This is Owen's ladybug.
Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood
Mickey's Clubhouse
BOZ the Big Green Bear (this is a Christian series with a set of boy/girl twins)
Things we are working on:
Identifying more alphabet letters and spelling our names. When we are outside Hannah and Owen are working on catching a ball and they really want to be able to dribble.
We paint our names to practice identifying the letters and how to spell our names.
Owen matches the letter H from the refrigerator to the H in Hannah's name.
Owen finishes everything fast and watches as Hannah continues to work.
Biggest challenges at 2 1/2 years old: sharing. I thought since they were twins they would naturally share and get along and while they do love each other and get along well most days they have their moments too. We are working hard on not taking things away without asking and taking turns. We are working on talking out our problems and figuring out a way to play together when there is an issue. Discipline at 2 1/2 has also been taxing as Hannah and Owen test us more, have more meltdowns, and spend more time in time out.
But overall, 2 1/2 has been really fun as we watch Hannah grow, discover, and learn new things everyday. It is amazing to be able to carry on conversations with them that are multiple sentences as they both have pretty good vocabularies for their age (at least I think so anyways).
