9 month Checkup

I haven't posted much about doctor's visits and how Hannah and Owen are progressing with their growth and development.  If you've seen them lately you know they're practically off the growth charts and here I thought I would have these small and petite little babies because they would be small at birth.  Boy was I wrong!  Most people see them and the conversation goes something like this..."Wow, they're twins!  How old are they? They're big!  How big were they when they were born?"  I answer, "7 lbs 12 oz and 6 lbs 03 oz."  Polite stranger's response, "that's crazy...you must have been huge!"  Then I walk away thinking where was the compliment in that conversation.  I guess when relatives on both sides of your family are in the 6' and above range you have "big" babies.  With that said, Hannah weighed 22 lbs 6 oz and was 29 inches tall at her 9 month appointment.  This is a far cry from the early days when we were so worried about her weight loss and gain.  She had grown 2 1/2 inches since her last appointment in June.  She is in the 90th percentile for height and weight.  Owen weighed 23 lbs 10 oz and was 30 inches tall.  He shot up 3 inches from his last appointment and was in the 75th-90th percentile for weight and 90th percentile for height.  Our pediatrician, Dr. LaRosa, said they are healthy growing babies and they look great.  She is always surprised by how strong they are and all that they are doing.

This was our most difficult appointment yet.  At this appointment they both had finger sticks to check their hemoglobin and 3 shots a piece.  Owen took the finger prick like a champ and shed not one tear.  I couldn't believe it.  Our Hannah on the other hand made up for it.  She was spittin' mad at the nurse and anyone else who entered the room.  She was ticked off and let everyone know about it.  She screamed from the time she got her finger pricked until the time we put her in the car to go home.  She fell asleep in her car seat still catching her breath from crying so much.  There was no consoling or redirecting her thoughts.  Dr. LaRosa would look at her and she would scream even louder.  Poor Hannah, girl!  She also managed to get Owen all worked up by the end of the appointment.  Two crying babies after shots is almost too much to bear.  When Hannah gets upset suddenly or has a hard time settling it stresses Owen out and he often cries because she is crying.  I love their closeness and awareness of one another.
