Spring has sprung and we decided it was time to rework our flower beds. Our old perennials had grown too large for one of our front beds so we pulled everything up and decided to start over. A trip to Home Depot to get 30 bags of mulch and some new flowers and we were ready to go. Owen was very excited to use a wheelbarrow just his size that Grandma let him borrow (it once belonged to his Uncle Troy). In fact when we came in for the night he cried because Daddy made him put in the shed and he had wanted to bring it inside. Hannah and Owen were also excited to use their rakes and shovels and they dug right in to getting dirty. Hannah helped me pull weeds to get the flower beds ready. Owen used his trucks to push around the old mulch and prep the flower beds. He helped dump out the new mulch with his wheelbarrow, spread it with his rake, and haul the empty bags to the trash can. This was the first year that we've been able to just work out in the yard with them helping along side of us and it was great fun! We took a break for naps lunch and naps which we much needed and then planted our new flowers in the afternoon. Hannah and Owen helped dig the holes for the new flowers and they placed them inside the hole as well. We finished our day by planting a small garden in a barrel because Hannah and Owen have been fascinated with our neighbor's raised bed. They helped us pick out tomatoes, strawberries, yellow bell peppers, and dill for our barrel garden. We also spent quite a bit of time playing outside as we gardened. We all fell into bed exhausted after our day of playing and working outside. We are proud of how nice everything looks!

The first bags of mulch get spread out.
Hannah helped "cut" the grass.
Owen does some site prep with his trucks.
Owen was so proud to get to use this little red wheelbarrow.
Hannah and Owen's friend Sarah stops by to help. Her and Owen work together to get the empty mulch bags to the trashcan. Sarah helped gather the trash and push the wheelbarrow and Owen threw the bags into the trashcan.
Hannah tires out and stops for a break in the shade of the garage. She rocks in Mommy's old rocking chair.
Time to put the plants in the ground.
Wesley stops by to check out all the action.
Time to plant our barrel garden. Owen scoops shovels full of rocks to put in the bottom so the barrel will drain well.
Motivation wains as the swing set becomes more appealing and Daddy continues on with the garden project.
The plants get their first drink of water.
