3 months- February

At 3 months old Hannah had rolled over from her stomach to her back as she was mad and trying to get out of tummy time which she despises.  We've been trying to do tummy time at least twice a day for 10 minutes and Hannah screams through all of it.  Sometimes we have to pick her up at 5 minutes, give her a break, and then put her back down.  I hate torturing her with tummy time so I often put someone else in control of making sure it happens (especially Aunt Vic when she comes to visit).  Owen deals with tummy time by finding his fist, sucking on it, and eventually going to sleep which soooo doesn't count, but he doesn't know that!  They have both starting sitting in their bebe pod seats and Hannah loves this.  I feel like it does just as much to develop her muscles and coordination as tummy time so I feel okay that tummy time is not our area of strength.  She sits really well and enjoys being able to look around.  Owen likes the bebe pod too, but because he is taller and his head a little heavier he struggles a bit more when sitting in it.  Owen is also very close to rolling over.  He will roll up on his side but then appears to get nervous and comes back down flat.

Both Hannah and Owen also laughed for the first time this month!  Hannah was on the changing table and I was playing with her when she  laughed and it took me a minute to realize what she was doing, but we were able to capture on video.  Owen laughed a couple of weeks after Hannah while I was eating dinner one night.  Chris was out of town and they were in their bouncy seats in the kitchen with me.  I leaned down from the table and ran my fingers up towards Owen's chest and neck saying I'm gonna get you and he just chuckled and chuckled from his belly.  I couldn't help but laugh along with him!

Also, this month I had to return to work after 14 weeks of maternity leave.  You already know that much of my maternity leave was fairly stressful and 2 weeks of it were spent in the hospital with Owen.  I called to see if I could get an extension, but they said no.  So with tears in my eyes and a binder of information left with grandma Houston I got in the car and drove to work (thankfully, it was the middle of the week).  I cried on the way there and I cried when I walked into the office, but managed to pull myself together when my students came through the door (barely).  The first two weeks felt more like two months.  It was definitely tough...Chris was still working out of town and Hannah and Owen were still getting up 1-2 times a night for a bottle.  There were definitely a few 3am phone calls to daddy with a stressed out and tired mommy and wife on the other end of the phone and Hannah and Owen screaming in the background.  I survived with my mom spending the night on  Tuesdays, grandma Houston helping around the house and doing a great job with Hannah and Owen, Cherry Coke Zero (which I sometimes popped open at 9:30am),  candy, and my love of being a mom to Hannah and Owen.  By May I felt like I finally adjusted (on most days).  All I can say is we made it through!
