A Special Visitor

Over Spring Break the passy fairy decided to pay Hannah and Owen a visit.  They received a package in the mail with a letter to each of them along with a book entitled Pacifiers Are Not Forever and pink and blue bags with stickers to decorate them.  The passy fairy told them that Hannah was a big girl because she could run, jump, go down the slide, and eat all by herself.  She told Owen he was a big boy because he could build  tall towers, jump, climb, and use his spoon and fork.  She said it was time for her to pick up their passies and take them to the new teeny tiny babies that needed them.   The passy fairy instructed them to leave their passies in their decorated bags in their cribs and she would come and pick them up, but she would leave them a big girl/big boy present for their bed.

The package from the passy fairy

Hannah and Owen were so excited about the package and the passy fairy that they jumped right into decorating their bags for their passies.

Hannah read (asked Mommy to read) her letter from the passy fairy over and over until she basically had it memorized.
The first passies go into the bag...we weren't quite ready to put the last one in though and decided to wait until Wednesday like the passy fairy said.

Each day we counted down the days with a sticker on the chart at the bottom of the passy fairy letter.
On Wednesday the last passy was put in the bag.
Hannah is proud to be a big girl and can't wait to see what the passy fairy brings!
Owen puts his last passy in the bag.
Owen is proud to be a big boy!

Hannah and Owen left the bag of passies in their crib for the passy fairy...
Hannah runs down the hall to find out what the passy fairy left...
They peer into Owen's crib to figure out what was left inside...
Big girl and big boy pillows for their bed!
 They LOVE their pillows!

That night while reading books before bed they had to sit on their pillows.

So how did giving up the passies really go...

Day/Night 1:  No crying!  Yes, you read this correctly.  Chris and I were amazed at how easily the went into their cribs and fell right to sleep.  They never woke up during the night looking for passies either.  We could believe it!  They were so excited to sleep with their new pillows that they didn't even think about their passies.

Day 2:

Naptime was another great success with no crying and a successful nap taken.  Yay!

Night 2 was a little harder for them.  Chris and I went in their room a couple of times to soothe them, but finally had to just let them cry, but surprisingly it only took them about 10 minutes to go sleep.

Day 3:

They had a hard time going down for their nap, but did eventually cave in and go to sleep.  By bedtime they were worn out from our trip to Maymont that they fell right to sleep.

Overall, I'd say that giving up passies turned out a lot easier than I thought it would.  I think the passy fairy helped.  They've done great without them and haven't asked for them back at all.  We're so proud of our big boy and big girl!
