Miler Time Again

October is always miler time and this year was no different.  It has become a family affair as Hannah and Owen help out at school the day before and Nana and Grandad join us for the event.  This year the event was especially dear to our hearts as the theme was "Run for Renee".  The week leading up to the Miler is always filled with excitement as preparations are under way and this year was no different, but there was sadness hidden underneath when I stopped long enough to let it sink in that this was for my friend and that she wasn't part of the day in the same way as usual although we all knew she was there.  So to honor her and keep myself busy I threw myself into food prep as usual, but into decorations as well because I wanted the day to have an impact on people even more than usual.  Thankfully there were several people that joined in the decorating effort with me.  Hannah and Owen even helped blow up all the balloons needed for our balloon topiaries and the clusters we hung from the ceiling in the entryway.  As usual it was a really fun day for every one that participated although bittersweet for many.

As a family we headed to school at 7:15am the day of the miler.  Hannah and Owen walked out of the house to get in the car and started yelling, "Mommy, Mommy the sky...its PINK! Come look!"  I call this a 'Nay sky!  This was enough to let me know Renee was very much apart of our Miler that day.
Hannah and Felix are ready for the day.

 Nana and Grandad are too!

We participated in the 3 mile event first.

Having snacks, hanging out with friends, and regrouping before Hannah and Owen run the 100 yard dash.

We managed to get in a few minutes of time playing on the swings and playground equipment as we waited for the 100 yard dash to begin.

 And they're off...

Owen is proud of the ribbon he received for participating in the event.
