I was very nervous about putting up our Christmas tree this year and even thought about forgoing the tradition since Hannah and Owen are into everything these days. I knew for sure they would not leave the tree alone, but I consulted with several other moms of young toddlers who surprisingly said their trees were left standing so with hope we eagerly put up our tree about 2 weeks into December. I had to include this on our blog because our tree looks so funny. I decided to only put on one box of ornaments and to leave the bottom bare so Hannah and Owen had no incentive to pull things off the tree. My plan worked and the tree was pretty much left alone other than a few tugs here and there at the branches. Owen also didn't care for the tree skirt at first and tried to pull it out from under the tree but he got used to it after a few hours. It was funny to watch them as the weeks have gone by because they eventually figured out if they took their walkers over the tree they could reach some of the ornaments and get them off. Our tree's unique look continued to get better and better as strand after strand of lights began to go dim. We are now looking for a new tree for next year!
It is family tradition that a Hallmark ornament be purchased each year to commemorate an important event from the year. We decided on Noah's Ark this year to symbolize Hannah and Owen's baptism. It also happens to be one of their favorite toys right now.
Hannah cries after she determines she just can't reach that ornament that she is after.
Hannah and Owen enjoyed playing with their manger scene this year. They would constantly pull out the pieces and hold them up so I could identify each animal and person.
If I said aww, Hannah, love baby Jesus she would do just that!
Owen liked to make the angel fly.
