Now That We're Two...

Being 2 years is old is so much fun!  Hannah and Owen continue to make us laugh each day.  The best thing about them being 2 so far is experiencing their continued language development.  They say new things each day and are quite funny with the words they use.  They also really play now and it is fun to play with them and to watch them play as well.  They interact with each other more and more each day.  They are developing friendships and remember everything!

Here are our 2 year pictures taken at Portrait Innovations.  Mommy and Daddy were exhausted by the end of the portrait session.  Taking pictures with 2 two year olds is not an easy job.  When one cooperates the other is on the move and of course now they have a mind and opinion of their own.  I was pleasantly surprised at all the really good shots that we got and the ones of them together are priceless because it is so hard to capture them both in the same photo.

 Can I say stinker?!

Hannah's signature sweet smile that makes us love her so.

2 Year Checkup:

Hannah weighs 33 lbs and is 35 inches tall putting her in 97th and 75th percentiles.  Owen weighs 34 1/2 lbs and is 37 inches tall putting him in the 97th and 95th percentiles.  They have graduated to standing on the big kid scale and standing against the wall to be measured too.  Needless to say we are pretty much exclusively wearing 3T clothes now.  Hannah still has baby feet though and wears a size 7 wide although we've been able to wear gymboree shoes recently.  Owen almost has preschool feet.  He measures 8 1/2, but we buy him 8 because everytime we've tried a size 9 it has been way too big.  He still has wide feet too.

Food:
Hannah and Owen love fruit and still almost any fruit offered to them.  They have recently tried clementine oranges.  Hannah grins when the juice runs down her chin.  Owen's favorite fruit is blueberries (thankfully we like the frozen ones too).  They also really like eating bananas broken in half.  Hannah is becoming more adventurous with trying vegetables but still eats very few.  However, she doesn't think twice about consuming the fruit and vegetable pouches in the baby food section.  Their peditrician assured me this was fine, but just recently she has been more willing to try her vegetables so maybe there is hope.  Neither are big meat eaters.  I even offered them ChickFila nuggets for the first time a couple of weeks ago and they wanted nothing to do with them.  They will eat my hamburger quiche, Gerber chicken sticks and turkey meatballs, and bacon in addition to lunch meat.  Owen's guilty pleasure is cheese.  I think he'd eat it until we had no more left in the house.  They both love shredded cheese and open their mouths wide for me to drop some in when I'm cooking.  They enjoy cheese tortellini (Hannah likes hers with spaghetti sauce and Owen likes his plain).  We still really like melts, puffs, and Gerber cheesy poofs for snacks as well as animal crackers, goldfish, and crispy wheat thins.  Hannah has developed a love of vanilla pudding which she gets as a special treat when she eats a good dinner.  Hannah asks for more ice cream and Owen asks for more cake on special occasions.  We still eat yogurt daily for lunch but have introduced greek yogurt into our diet.  Some of their favorite things to eat are pancakes (still), mashed pototoes, and macaroni with cheese (noodles with cheese).

They do really well eating with their fork and spoon and off a plate now.  We are transitioning to booster seats at the table as well.  Most nights we are able to sit down as a family and eat dinner together.  Hannah and Owen have come to expect this and eat the best when we are all eating together.

Favorite Songs:
Yankee Doodle-this was in a nursery rhyme book that we have and they decided it was their favorite.  There were a few weeks where we had to sing it many many times a day while they danced along to the tune.

Old McDonald-they like this one because they can sing hte e i e o part and it's so cute!

In the car Owen hears a song on a CD and decides that it is the only song he wants to hear so we have to put it on repeat and listen to the same song for the entire time we are in the car. It isn't always the same song though. This mostly happens with their Sesame Street CD, but recently it has become the intro song on the Polar Express sound track.

Favorite Toys:
Any toy with play figures/people that they can take in or out of houses, trucks, etc.  We bought a Sesame Street playhouse with figures at a yardsale this fall and they play with it everyday.  They like to line the characters up in a parade, pick them up in the school bus, and let them have turns riding on the fire truck and climbing the ladder.  If they run out of room the people, figures, or animals have to wait their turn (yes they say this) in a line.

Owen really likes Lego Duplo blocks right now and all things trucks and tractors (he calls them tracties).  He really likes to pretend to shop also and will "wipe" the cart before shopping.

Hannah still loves her baby dolls and has taken to putting them in her high chair and pretend/imaginative baby beds.  She also likes to have her babies play with her toys in the house.  It is really funny.

Sharing is probably our biggest challenge right now.  Even though they've always played in the same space and shared the same toys it is hard to take turns and let the other play with a coveted toy.  We talk a lot about sharing and reward for things that are easily shared with hugs and praise.  Owen has the hardest time sharing and changes the pitch of his voice when he says Hannah and his intention is to keep her away from the toy he is playing with.

Chatterboxes:

I can't even begin to describe all Hannah and Owen say and talk about in a day.  Hannah is our parrot...she likes to repeat everything we say.  If I ask Owen to say thank you Hannah she will repeat and say thank you Hannah.  She will say excuse me when she burps and recently was trying to get by Owen and said, "excuse me, Owen".  One night she was trying to put a wagon and tractor together and wanted to do it "by herself", after a couple of attempts she looked up and said, "keep trying", and then "almost got it" followed by "try again".  She also likes to provide a running commentary about everything she does all day long.  She will also remind herself to be careful.  The phrase I hear most often is "Mommy get upie" and "Mommy help you".  She can be quite demanding and bossy at her young age.

Owen is also putting words together to express what he wants and to talk about the things he likes.  He refers to himself as wo wo and often asks, "Wo Wo do" especially when he is causing trouble.

Hannah and Owen can identify several colors and a lot of letters which they associate with things and people they know.  They say d, dada, m, mommy, n, nana, i, ice cream, a, Avery, O, Owen, H, Hannah, E, E.E., J, Uncle Jake.

Things we like to do:

Go to Storytime at the library on Tuesdays and Thursdays with Grandma
Go to Kindemusic on Fridays with Grandma (their teacher is Ms. Alyson and they like getting stamps on their hands at the end of class)

Clean-they always ask for washclothes and paper towels so they can clean the door, furniture, and their toys.  Hannah will actually spit blow raspberries on stuff just to have something to clean up.

They love running up and down the hall at the same time pushing their ball poppers.  Our house is a very loud place sometimes!  Owen's ball papper doubles as a weed eater and leaf blower too after seeing Chris weedeating and blowing the grass off the driveway.

Hide and Seek is a new favorite game.  They like to hide and then say, "Where Hannah Go? or Where Owie Go?".  They like for me to hide their loveys-Patches and Freckles.  They like to look for the hidden object or person in places they know it won't be like under toys and then say, no, when it isn't there.

Watching Caillou is their favorite thing to do before bed.  Just within the past 2 months they have developed a love for Caillou.  Owen will sit in his high chair propped up on his elbows throughout the entire show.  When it is over they ask for more Caillou.  They like to comment on the characters and things happening in the show too.  They know the pet cat's name is Gilbert and Caillou's sister is Rosie.

Playing outside is one of our favorite activities too.  They love climbing up the ladder for their slide, rolling their card down the slide, swinging, "cutting" the grass, playing on their seesaw, and playing with the bat and ball.  Owen likes to sit at the top of the slide, push his cars down, and then get Hannah to retrieve them and hand them back up to him so he can do it again.

Big Things Coming Up:

Mommy is working on a plan for potty training (sooner rather than later as Hannah now reports when she needs a clean diaper and when Owen needs one too).  I walked into their room one morning and Hannah said, "Hannah kinky" followed by "Owie kinky, real kinky!"

Moving into big kid beds...this one makes Mommy the most anxious.

Getting rid of passies...this one will be tough!  They only use them at night and for naps, but they love love love their passies and have to have 2 in their cribs at all times.  They usually hold one in their hand and suck on the other.

These are exciting things in our future, but they are making Mommy a little sad as she realizes her babies are growing up way too fast!
